PAST GRADUATES:

Samantha Balzer (BA Hon '11) was featured in the June 8 Convocation photo gallery. You can hear her story about why she chose Women's Studies here.

Since her graduation from the U of A’s Women’s Studies Program, Perry’s knowledge of women’s issues has served her well in the media. Starting in community radio, Perry moved to CBC Radio One’s flagship programs As It Happens and Definitely Not the Opera. She is now the executive producer of the rabble podcast network, a part of independent media site rabble.ca. You can listen to her on rabble radio at rabble.ca/rpn/rab. Meagan has served on the board of the Yukon Status of Women Council, and plays music for the local brownie troupe. They call her Music Owl.
-Meagan Perry (BA '94), Executive Producer, rabble podcast network

"Being a student in WMST was a good investment." According to Gosia Kamela, taking women's studies "Gave me a solid foundation in critical theory - the best tool in understanding a spectrum of perspectives." Now a director of development and producer for a Vancouver based film company, Gosia explains that Women's Studies made her a "good reader," which is a huge asset in her job: "I work with screenwriters, directors and other producers - it is amazing how many "reads" a single page of script can have."
-Gosia Kamela (BA '04), Director of Development/Producer, True West Films

I knew that I wanted to major in Women's Studies as soon as I took my first course (WST201) in my first semester of university. I ended up doing a double major in History and Women's Studies, and I'm so grateful for the contribution that Women's Studies made to my education. In addition to opening my eyes to a wide variety of theories and issues, Women's Studies introduced me to a whole new way of thinking that has enriched my work and my life.
-Emily Johnson (BA '07), Graduate Student in History, Yale University
